Road Closed

A couple of Friday's ago we did an activity that required us to grab an image that depicted how we felt at the current moment about Mission Year. Initially I did not see an image that I wanted to use but then I saw the above picture. What caught my attention was the juxtaposition of the road, flood waters, and the boat. Although the road was there, it's evident that it is no longer useful due to (temporary) flood waters. On the right, there is a group of people who have stopped moving due to the water.

How this all relates to my current situation

Mission Year is not designed for us to do life as normal. Just about every aspect of my life has changed. And for a week or 2 I truly felt uncomfortable, sometimes frustrated and tired because of how different life had become. I found myself living for the weekend and going into survival mode where I was just doing what I could to get through the day. For me this is a dangerous place to be because when I look forward to the weekend, the next day, or the next thing I don't fully take advantage of what's in front of me. I was surviving but not thriving.

All types of things will come into my life, by choice or not by choice, that will not allow me to do life as normal. When this happens I have 2 options, 1. I can sit there and wait until this new thing is gone or over, think about myself and how challenging things may be (waste of time and no room for growth) or 2. learn how to thrive in my new situation (allow the discomfort and frustration to take me to a deeper understanding of Christ and help me to better understand my neighbor that I may also love them better).

This image also made me think of thankfulness. May we not miss the opportunity to thank God. Although the flood waters are there don't forget to thank God for the boat. Thank God that someone is on the boat with you. Thank God for your life.

In the midst of what may be going on in your life, what can you thank God for?
